Interesting opener with 3 last start winners in the small 6 horse field..
#1 DECENT RAINE ($2.25) is the clear class in the race and only the bad draw last start beat her. She still sprinted quickly and savaged the line with everything against her in the run.
The form through her last run behind 'Lady of Honor' has already stood up well, with 'Lavish Girl' who ran 3rd, then coming out and winning very strongly at Flemington at her very next start.
She draws handy here in gate 3 this time and after the 2kg claim from Matty Cartwright she gets well in relative terms with only 59kgs against this lot.
My "One" tiny concern with her is she has been up for a long time this campaign (9th up here), but she is a month between runs and the stable wouldn't run if they weren't happy with her...
With even luck in running she should be too classy and dispose of these..
Really keen on two debutantes here. #5 JACQUINOT ($3.3) & #14 THESECONDATPORTSEA ($8.5).
JACQUINOT in particular has jumped out super in preparation for this and although he draws a horrible gate in 13, I think he may just have the class to overcome it..
THESECONDATPORTSEA is another that I've been really impressed with at the jump outs and is just another smart youngster coming through for the Danny Obrien camp.
I thought her recent jump out on the same morning as impressive 2YO stable mates "Stupendo & Hell Hath No Fury" wasnt much below them to my eye and she presents very good each way value at $8.5.
Liked the debut run of #10 COVER STAR ($9) in the 250k MM race at Ballarat on debut. I'm not convinced yet that the form through that race will stack up, but she looks a filly with talent and general upside and has race day experience on her side.
Good race. #17 MARABI is a deserved raging favorite in the race, but you could hardly rush into the poisonous odds of ($1.5) on offer.
She won arrogantly first up and she is well placed to repeat the dose again when you consider the light weight and barrier she has to contend with (54kg, gate 7).
There looks to be a bit of genuine pace in this (ANCESTRY gate 2, SARTORIAL SPLENDOR gate 17 bound to push forward) so I doubt she will be hell bent on leading them, but she seems quite adaptable and could take a sit 3rd or 4th if need be (especially from the nice gate)..
I thought #18 GINGER JONES ($126) was the massive overs in the race and a top 3-4 finish wouldn't shock me. He draws a lovely gate in 3, he's 2 from 4 at the track and he's never missed a place from 5 previous first up appearances..
Throw in the fact that he's recent Ballarat jump out was super, I think he's been horribly underestimated in the markets and shouldn't be left out of top 4's and Quaddie thoughts.
#4 PARSIFAL ($14), #12 CURRAN ($17) & the South Aussie visitor #10 OUTLAWS REVENGE ($7.5) will all be suited by a frantic early tempo if the track is playing evenly and will running on hard late and can fill top 4-5 slots.
Hot 2YO form race with the rich Magic Millions approaching on the GC in mid January.
#9 COOLANGATTA ($1.35) is a star and looks like one right out of the box!
She should have no real problems disposing of these on her way to conquering the MM in 3 weeks time. She just looks a different class and JMac ventures north to steer.
I really like this talented/yet erratic colt #6 SWISS EXILE ($7.5) as a horse.
He couldn't have done anything more 'wrong' on debut if he tried and yet still savaged the line like a promising colt going places.
If he can get it 'half' right this time, he can certainly give this somewhat of a shake and a is a clear 2nd pick (quinella horse) in the race for mine.
Really keen on the Hawkes trained 2YO debutante here in #18 MILLS ($6) from her jump outs. She looks a smart type by Snitzel, draws barrier 4, gets a nice weight allowance off the boys and she can get the gun run here and get her promising career off on the right note!
At the $6 on current fixed markets, she looks a great each way bet to get the punters off and roaring on Boxing Day! 🥷💥
